The aim of the Ladies’ Group is to demonstrate Christian love and provide opportunities for ladies to get to know each other, to make new friends and build up relationships. We aim to be fully inclusive and encourage ladies to invite and bring along their friends to share in the enjoyment and fun.
The current Ladies’ Group has been running since December 2021. We now meet bi-monthly, usually on a Thursday evening, and try to arrange activities to suit all ages. We have had a wide range of events, including a curry night, ten pin bowling, greens bowls with fish and chips, quiz night with nibbles, a picnic with live music from a saxophonist, bingo and pizza, our birthday celebration, 60/70’s night with popular music, quiz and foods of that era, a Pudding (dessert) night and a summer Fashion Show by ‘The Gap in the Market’ with a finger buffet. Our final event before the summer break was Barbecue foods and a music night with the St Peter’s Wellbeing Choir and a sing-a-long, with FUG’s (Feelgood Ukulele Group). As is always popular at Queens Road, nearly all our events involve food!
- Chapter & Verse
In September 2024, we decided to have a ‘Chris and Curry Night’ in which we would hear some of Chris’s poems. However, this gradually developed, and we had the privilege of having an ‘Evening of Entertainment with Matthewman and Langsdon. Renowned for their extraordinary talent, they captivated the ladies with their performance of ‘Chapter and Verse’. During this performance, Chris shared his life story up to that point, beautifully intertwining verse and songs into a tapestry of both serious and humorous sketches.
Chris’s narrative, delivered through verse, was a masterful blend of introspection and wit, offering a unique glimpse into his journey. His portrayal was both poignant and amusing, striking a balance that kept everyone engaged throughout the evening.
‘Chapter and Verse’ was a collaborative piece, showcasing the duo’s exceptional creativity and collaborative synergy. Brian Langsdon’s contributions were equally remarkable, adding depth and dimension to the performance. The whole evening was not just entertaining but also thought-provoking, leaving us with much to ponder.
Chris and Brian’s ability to weave stories through verse and song created a wonderful evening that was greatly enjoyed by everyone present.

Christmas Craft Night – November 2024
The Christmas Craft Night in November 2024 was a great evening with over 70 ladies attending. This annual event has become a popular evening, offering a wide range of crafting activities that bring joy and creativity to all who attend.
The event offered various crafts, each designed to spark the holiday spirit. Participants had the opportunity to engage in a wide array of creative endeavours, ensuring that there was something for everyone. The crafts included:
· Decorating Bottles: Transforming wine and small bottles into beautiful decorative pieces that can grace any festive table.
· Making Christmas Cards: Handcrafting personalized Christmas cards, adding a touch of love and uniqueness to holiday greetings.
· Filling Baubles: Creating charming baubles by decorating pre-cut wooden pictures and filling with artificial snow – perfect for adorning Christmas trees.
· Face Flannel Craft: Crafting a teddy bear and a cupcake from flannels – a very tactile activity.
· Macrame: learning basic macrame knots and creating macrame rings to hang on the Christmas tree.
· Dried Fruit Fragrances: Making fragrant decorations using dried fruits, which not only look beautiful but also fill the air with a festive aroma.
The atmosphere was filled with laughter, chatter and the variety of crafts ensured that everyone found an activity that resonated with them, and the sense of accomplishment was palpable.
Although refreshments were provided throughout the evening, there was such a buzz with ladies wanting to do as many crafts as possible, that quite a few did not even take a break!
Christmas Craft Night is more than just an evening of crafting; it is a celebration of community and the joy of shared experiences. The event fosters connections among participants, bringing together friends old and new. The crafts created during the night serve as lasting memories of the event.
- Ladies Group Update
Our March event ‘Everything goes well with Chocolate’ proved to be a very popular evening, with many of our ladies bringing along their friends and neighbours.
Carl Whitehead, the Captain of the Salvation Army in Ramsgate, started the evening by sharing his testimony with us, explaining how he became a Christian and the way in which he felt led into the Lord’s service within the Salvation Army.
Prior to going into the ministry, Carl used to work at Cadbury’s and gave us a very informative talk, with slides, about how chocolate was first discovered and the processes that occur to give us the wonderful tasting chocolate we have today. He provided milk and plain chocolate samples for us to try and identify the brand and then rate in order of preference and taste. There was also a quiz on when different brands of chocolate bars were first introduced, which was quite enlightening!
As usual, food and drinks were provided and there was a great atmosphere throughout the evening.
In May, we invited the ‘The Gap in the Market’ shop to put on a Fashion Show. Once again, this proved to be a very popular evening in which we watched some fantastic volunteers (male and female) model a range of clothing for all occasions.
During the evening, the ladies were able to sit and chat or view and purchase clothing, shoes and accessories, that had been been modelled, and items donated to the shop.
It was good to be able to support the ‘Gap in the Market’ shop which raises money for many community based projects. It has some fantastic items for sale and is well worth a visit.
Future events for this year, all at QRBC.
Thursday 18th July – An Afternoon Tea (in the evening) with music by David Burrin.
Thursday 19th September – Chris and Curry Night (an evening of Poetry)
Thursday 21st November – Christmas Craft Night
- Ladies Group 2023 Round Up!
The Ladies’ and Men’s Group combined for a joint afternoon activity in September when we joined the St Peter’s Village Tour. This was an interesting tour in which we learnt a great deal about St Peter’s village and life in the past, from our guide and the amazing volunteers that dressed up as different characters on route and gave us more historical information. If you have never been on the tour, we recommend you giving it a go.
September also saw the ladies go Ten Pin Bowling at Bugsy’s in Cliftonville. This was a great evening in which to have fun, competition and socialise. It was lovely just having time to chat with other ladies in a relaxed atmosphere.
In November, we had a Craft and Cake evening. This proved to be very popular, and the ladies were able to participate in a variety of Christmas activities ranging from paper craft, card making, sewing, making Christmas tree decorations, flannel craft and decorating bottles/jars for lights and night lights. For the first time in the history of the group, people were so engaged many didn’t even want to stop for food!!
Our next event is on Thursday 18th January 2024, which will be a Fun Bingo Night with Jacket Potatoes with a selection of fillings. For more details, please look out for the leaflets and sign up on the notice board outside the Worship Area.
We are thrilled to say that Liz Roberts has agreed to join our Ladies’ Committee. We look forward to working with Liz and her input which we know will be invaluable.
- 60’s & 70’s Party!
A small look at the fun and games we had at our Sixties and Seventies themed party in January. Music, quiz and food, all from those two groovy decades! A number of our ladies dressed up and we all had a lovely evening!
